Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Laura previously worked as a freelance journalist for The Gainesville Sun writing sports and feature articles, shooting and editing videos, as well as producing the website. Laura’s experiences in journalism have led to skills in developing social media strategy, video production, writing, editing and developing web, print and multimedia branding programs.
As an undergraduate student at Ohio University, Laura interned at the Dayton Daily News, Sports Illustrated and South Florida Sun-Sentinel. With a heavy interest in sports writing, she routinely covered the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Dolphins and Florida Panthers, in addition to various University of Miami, University of Florida and high school sports. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2008 and worked for two years in southern Louisiana managing the web presences of two regional papers in Houma and Thibodaux.
Laura joined the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education in 2011. She will graduate from the University of Florida with a master’s degree in web design and online communication in May 2015. She continues to write for The Gainesville Sun and oversee online production on The Sun’s website for University of Florida football games.
